The gallery was founded in 1980 when Don Robinson and his then-wife and business partner, Diane Kinsman, decided to use their personal collection to open a fine art gallery. A Professional Engineer who received his undergraduate education from U of T and an MBA from McMaster, Don was inspired by the art collection at Hart House. Diane Kinsman also received her undergraduate education from U of T. Her ancestors were United Empire Loyalists who founded the community of Vankleek Hill. Diane was influenced early on by her great-aunt's love for Canadian art.

During the '70s, Don gradually converted their hobby into a business. As a consultant and private art dealer, he assisted many Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto area collectors in building significant art collections.

In 1975, while still living in Montreal, Don and Diane founded a quarterly newsletter, The Canadian Art Investors Guide. In two years, they developed it into a magazine with nationwide subscription sales. In 1980, publication ceased and KRG opened at 468 Eglinton Ave W. After five successful years, KRG moved to 25 Prince Arthur Ave.

KRG relocated to 112 Scollard St in 1989 and moved again in 1992 to 14 Hazelton Ave. In 1997, Don and Diane seized the opportunity—with the retirement of couturier Maggy Reeves—to purchase the building at 108 Cumberland St, in the heart of Yorkville, as a home base for KRG.

Celebrating 30 years in the art business, the gallery prides itself in its ability to carry on business in an honest and ethical manner.
